located in present day laos, the plain of jars is one of the most mysterious prehistoric sites in southeast asia. thanks to courageous efforts to clear the area of UXO, you can now wander and wonder through clusters of massive stone jars- some of which weigh up to 14 tons. the sheer size of these stones coupled with the nearest quarry being over 5 miles away, could lead you to believe that the civilization who built these megaliths were technologically advanced. locals have a more whimsical theory about an ancient race of giants who transported and carved the stones to use for fermenting celebratory rice wine… what if they’re right?
